Welcome to the Website of the winery SCHWERTFÜHRER  35

We would like to introduce our family to you

The success of our team is built on family ties. In our winery all generations work together, which guarantees a broad horizon and new perspectives.

The gentlemen

Senior boss Leopold and his son Johann both love nature and enjoy working in their vineyards all year long. The fruits of their labour can be seen in the cellar, and they have been rewarded with many prizes and awards.

The beautifully kept wine tavern (“Heurigen”) is the pride of the 3 Schwertführer ladies

During the week, Frieda and Christine sell bottled wine in the cellar. At the weekend, however, their place is at the food counter of the “Heurigen”. Johann and his sister Andrea, a certified sommelier, serve wine and other drinks to the guests.

The young generation

Sigrid and Kerstin, the wine-growers-to-be, are in the middle of their education. And then there’s our youngest, Cornel, Max’ and Andrea’s son.

Andrea has her own bed & breakfast, “Weinpension Andrea”, in a picturesque and absolutely quiet location amidst the vineyards.

Our house has been owned by our family for 112 years.

We cultivate 15 hectares of vineyards around Sooss, of which 65% are red wine, 30% white wine and 5% Spätlese or Auslese (sweet wine).

Red wine

Red wine can take its time. According to vintage and grape variety we distinguish between the following:

“Classic line”: Wine with classical winemaking. Fruity, lively, and a mellow finish.

The vineyards of the location (Harterberg/Vasall): Matured in a wood barrel, they are ruby in colour, with strong tannin and full finish.

“SPADA” (meaning “sword”) matures in barriques, which results in very dark, strong and elegant wines with a full finish.

“WAASN”: From the best vineyards of the house, this wine matures separately in barriques. The mineral content of the ground accounts for an authentic, elegant Zweigelt with powerful tannin and a long finish.

White wine

We aim at quick processing, which results in delicately fruity wines with an agreeable acidity and mineralic taste.

The Lower Austrian thermal region is renowned for its many varieties of grapes. Depending on the weather of a particular year, we can offer you dry, medium dry or sweet wines.

Amongst our specialities are the autochthon varieties Rotgipfler and the burgundies Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay.

News

Bottled wine is sold daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Our “Heurigen” is open Saturdays and Sundays from 3 p.m.

Our wine tavern (“Heuriger”)

Our small and cosy “Heuriger” lies in the hands of the three ladies. Every Saturday and Sunday it offers hospitality and relaxation.

The most important thing is, of course, the wine. It is sold by the glass and of course each wine is served in the matching glass.

Like the men in the vineyards, the women are innovative, creative, but also traditional in the kitchen.

All the food is home-made and deliciously seasoned. You can finish your meal with one of our delicious desserts.

Sale of bottled wine

Just to the south of Vienna the rolling hills of the thermal region begin. Gumpoldskirchen, Baden, Sooss and Bad Vöslau are well-known places of this area. It is here, at the beginning of the picturesque Helenental, where you can find us.

Costumer service is essential for us. Therefore our wine cellar is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. At the weekend you can buy bottled wine in the morning and during the opening times of the wine tavern (starting from 3 p.m.)

B & B “Weinpension Andrea”

Andrea has her own bed & breakfast, “Weinpension Andrea”, in a picturesque and absolutely quiet location amidst the vineyards.

It offers comfortable rooms with parquet floors, satellite TV, bathroom with shower, toilet and hair dryer, and grander water.

In the morning you can enjoy the buffet breakfast including home-made bread and jam and other delicacies.

Sooss is an ideal starting point for trips to Vienna, the Biedermeier town of Baden, the Wienerwald or the Burgenland. The surrounding area is ideal for sports such as swimming, Nordic Walking, hiking, climbing or golf.
